Hello my name is Paul and I am the owner and operator of Birdtail Waterfowl Service. I am originally from Quebec, and come from a long line of outdoorsmen. My great great grandfather was a mountain guide near Chamois in the French Alps. My family moved from Quebec so that my father could take an I.T.position with Ducks Unlimited Canada. My Dad and I took full advantage of the wealth of knowledge of the DU boys; we hunted every hot spot in Manitoba!

I have now been involved in the lodging industry since the mid 1990’s and will continue to take it to the next level. Birdtail Waterfowl Service is a business that is taken very seriously. I feel that there is a dream hunt out there every morning and every evening! Our success and work ethic is what separates us from the rest.

My guiding career has taken me all over Canada, as far north as the Arctic Ocean. I take great pride in my work ethic and my knowledge of the industry. Experience has been my greatest teacher. One of the most important aspects of guiding is a strong respect for nature and all its wonders! I have had numerous encounters, where my skills and knowledge have been tested - always enjoying and responding to the challenge. Some of my most rewarding experiences have been hunting throughout North America. Working alongside and learning different techniques used by fellow well-respected guides, has allowed me to incorporate some of their strategies into my own business.

I have guided for many reputable Canadian lodges and for many different species. Whitetail, Caribou, Musk Ox, Black Bear, Arctic Char, Lake Trout, Grayling, Pike, and Walleye are just a few. I have been involved in waterfowl for over 10 years, initially with Stanley's Goose Camp and have not missed a day of each precious season.

Guiding for waterfowl in one of the most concentrated flyways in Canada has provided me with a great waterfowl education. Working in a professional environment has taught a great deal about running a successful waterfowl operation. There are many elements that go into having a great hunt and I pride myself in taking care of every detail. All good hunters know that it takes more than having great days in the field, to make a hunting trip, truly memorable!

My wife Catherine, daughter Meredith and I are looking forward to the approaching waterfowl season. We know that you will have an enjoyable experience with Birdtail Waterfowl Service. p@birdtailwaterfowl.com

Hello, my name is Sean Pollock and this is my fifth year with Birdtail Waterfowl Service. My wife Cheryl and I are from farming families from Manitoba and Saskatchewan and hunting is a family tradition. Since shooting my first goose at 8 years old with my dad, I've been hooked.

Every fall is a new and exciting time to explore, reflect upon past hunts and enjoy the challenge and wonder of new ones. I have hunted and guided whitetail deer, bear and waterfowl and have found that the turning of the leaves and shortening of the days means that my favorite time of year has finally come. Heading into the field with friends, family, and a trusted dog makes each Manitoba waterfowl hunt an adventure that you will not forget.

My pup Hannah is looking forward to another great season in the wilds of Manitoba and I look forward to having you join us. For 27 years I have known your outfitter and his family. They are without fail the most dedicated outdoorsmen I have ever met and each time a field something new is passed along. Come and enjoy the wonder and beauty of the scenery, truly awesome bird numbers, and the camaraderie of a great hunt. I look forward to meeting you this fall.

Howdy! My name is Mike Conchâtre - Paul's Dad!

The outdoors, hunting, fishing, canoeing, skiing are a tradition in our family. It all started with my great grandfather - a mountain guide hunting out Chamois and Ibex in the French Alps in the late 1800's. The tradition has never left the family. It is alive and well.

My Dad's family moved from France to Québec, where I was raised. Our Québec roots bring that zest for life, the "joie de vive"! Skiing in the winter, fishing for Brookies in the spring and summer, and then waterfowl hunting and guiding the big waters of Lac St-Pierre and the Gulf of St. Laurence has been a way of life for us.

In 1981, Ducks Unlimited beckoned. Then, my wife Pat, our daughter Andrea, son Paul and I moved west to Manitoba. I have worked for Ducks Unlimited since then and currently work out of our Corporate Office at Oak Hammock Marsh (near Winnipeg).

The discovery of Manitoba was and still is a wonder for us - the lakes, rivers and woodlands - big sky country! Fall is a wondrous time. More ducks and geese than we ever dreamed of when we lived back East! The snap of the autumn air, big sky, golden stubble in the fields, blue potholes filled with migrating waterfowl - deer, big deer - if you are a hunter, this is where it is at!

Paul was six when we arrived in Manitoba, when we began our Manitoba discovery together. We have driven, paddled, hiked, fished and hunted every corner of this beautiful province. From Paul's first black-powder deer at age twelve, we have hunted together every chance we have had.

And now, like a good son, Paul has taken it to the next level, guiding in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the North West Territories, - waterfowl, deer, bear, caribou, musk-ox, Lake Trout, Arctic Char and his Birdtail Waterfowl Service. It is with great pride that I work for him each fall!

Come and join us for a great hunt and a great time!

Hello all, it’s great to see your interest in the Birdtail Waterfowl Service website!!!

My name is Matt Cornell. I grew up in eastern Manitoba along the Winnipeg River where I was immersed in the traditions of the outdoors almost since birth or at least as far back as memory serves me. I suppose that’s just the way it is when you come from a family of avid hunters and fishers.

These interests go back down my family tree, generation after generation with hunting and fishing stories recorded as far back as the mid nineteenth century. More recently, my grandfather Ed was a professional hunter and fisher, working throughout the Manitoba wilderness, mainly to provide food for the then blossoming industries of logging and mining.

His passion for the solitude and adventure of the outdoors inevitably found its way into the fabric of my own life. It has led me, into what has now been, more than a decade (and I see no end in sight) of guiding fur, fin and feather all over this incredible country and in some cases, pursuing a variety of quarry around the world.

In the fall of 2006 Paul Conchâtre, a guiding partner and friend for more than eight years, invited me to join the Birdtail Waterfowl crew for the remainder of their season. After already fulfilling a waterfowl contract for that year, there was no way I could resist.

What I found was arguably one of the best run waterfowl outfits on the continent. I had finally found what I was looking for as a guide. The whole team was as passionate and excited for each hunt as I was, putting every ounce of time and focus into the experiential aspect of that long awaited season. There were no sacrifices too large in terms of doing everything possible, to make each excursion an epic event of scouting, calling and shooting for all involved.

Surely, in terms of company and procedure, this group would be a dream realized for any avid water fowler. Not to mention that Birdtail operates in the heart of some of North America’s greatest waterfowl concentrations making for truly unbelievable shoots… day after day, the body count was astonishing!

I have to say that I am sincerely grateful for being offered the opportunity to be a part of a team, which time and time again, produces some of the most incredible waterfowl hunts available anywhere. With that said, I look forward to seeing you all in the field in 2007 and hopefully many times after that.

“Tight Lines and Big Leads,”
